HIKE SCHOLARS ACHIEVE NEW ATTENDANCE MARK AND CELEBRATE IN ST. PAUL STYLE AT MATTY B'S SUPPER CLUB

On April 17th, the HIKE Foundation hosted its' monthly HIKE SCHOLARS meeting at Matty B's Supper Club. The SCHOLARS excitement and anticipation of the culinary treats that lay ahead was so thick it could have been cut with a knife.

Matt kicked the evening off, as he does every month, by recognizing the HIKE SCHOLARS who had perfect school attendance during the previous month. This month was a record month for HIKE SCHOLARS, as 10 of the 13 SCHOLARS (77%) had perfect school attendance! Each of the SCHOLARS who had perfect attendance was provided a Vikings mini-helmet for their hard work.

The team at Matty B's quickly took the SCHOLARS' and their parents' dinner orders and we moved into our reading time. With the month's reading theme focused on folk tales and stories, each SCHOLAR was given a copy of "Porch Lies: Tales of Slicksters, Tricksters, and other Wily Characters" by Patricia McKissack - a series of stories about - well slicksters, tricksters and other wily characters. Matt read one of the tales aloud as the SCHOLARS carefully listened.

The SCHOLARS were then treated to story telling by renowned twin cities story teller - Mike Mann. The SCHOLARS gathered on the floor around Mr. Mann has he took them on imaginary journeys to distant and exciting places.

As 8:00pm closed in we had just one final and the most anticipated activity to complete - dessert. Matty B's Executive Chef treated each of the scholars to a Minnesota Vikings-sized hand-dipped hot fudge sundae. After everyone's sweet tooth was satisfied our journey came to an end.

April's perfect attendance milestone of ten SCHOLARS and the 100% perfect parental participation were more big steps forward in inspiring each of the HIKE SCHOLARS and their family members to broaden their horizons through education.
